Waverly CrenshawWaverly Crenshaw is a partner at Waller Lansden and serves on the firm's Diversity Committee. He concentrates his practice in the areas of labor and employment and all employer/employee-related issues as well as government regulatory issues. Mr. Crenshaw provides day-to-day advice to management on all aspects of employment and labor law. His primary concentration lies in the areas of employment litigation, including complex, multi-plaintiff racial discrimination, harassment and retaliation cases.

Mr. Crenshaw has been a partner in a majority law firm longer than any other African-American attorney in Nashville. He was appointed recently for a three-year term to the Governor's Advisory Committee on Equal and Fair Employment Opportunity.

Obtaining a favorable jury verdict for my client

What word best describes you: – Resilient

Most embarrassing or funniest moment:
Seeing a church member that he thought had passed away. Mr. Crenshaw said he walked up to him and said, “It is so good to see you”, but was thinking “Man, I thought you were dead”.

What is there that people would be surprised to learn about you?
My spiritual life.

Mr. Crenshaw adds one thing that has been most instrumental in his life as far as being the first black lawyer in a major law firm and holding that position the longest is the support he has received from Waller, Lansden, Dortch & Davis. Crenshaw says, one would think that being in this position could be a very negative experience, but his has been the complete opposite. Waller has provided a very rich support environment for him throughout his career and it has been a very pleasant and lasting experience. He has had a very successful career with the firm.

Most challenging case: Obtaining a favorable outcome in a 92 plaintiff law suit and class action alleging discrimination.

One additional Note: For his work in labor and employment law, Mr. Crenshaw has been recognized in America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (Chambers & Partners) since 2004 as well as the Nashville Business Journal’s 2005 “Best of the Bar” and the Tennessee Business Journal “Best Lawyers” in 2007 and 2008.
