INTERMEDIARY GRANT OPPORTUNITY
Department of Labor’s Grant Description
TIPS FOR WORKING WITH NCAC

If you are considering making an application for the Department of Labor’s Intermediary Grant funding for Faith and Community based organizations, here are tips on how to link with the one-stop system to improve your proposal.

Who is NCAC?

The Nashville Career Advancement Center (NCAC) is the administrator of Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds in Davidson, Rutherford, Wilson and Trousdale counties. We use federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds to link job seekers with employment opportunities and employers to the workforce. For more information about One-stop services, see www.NCACWorkforce.org.

Opportunities for Partnership
NCAC is pleased to offer assistance in your application for the Department of Labor’s most recent funding opportunity to Intermediary Organizations. Since this proposal seeks to ultimately impact higher risk job seekers, we urge you to design programs that will enhance the work already being done in the community to support employment for individuals who want to work but face extreme personal barriers.

An example of much needed employment support is one-on-one personal support after that individual gets employed. It is often easier to get a job than keep one, as this is when the resources for these high-risk job seekers are at a minimum. We have noticed that support around problem solving is as important in many cases as funds to cover transportation until a paycheck is underway. Organizations that can provide this kind of service would make a critical contribution to those that are trying to maintain and retain employment and reach independence.

In Nashville, NCAC serves these high-risk job seekers through employment programs in the Preston Taylor Community, The Sam Levy Community, the Vine Hill community, the Southside Enterprise Community and the Andrew Jackson Community. In addition, we partner with providers that work with welfare recipients in these areas, as well as, those that live in other low-income neighborhoods.

NCAC would gladly provide the following technical assistance to you as you develop your grant proposal:

  • Information regarding One-stop services, contracted services for individuals served through WIA funds, as well as other community based programs that NCAC funds or provides, and guidance regarding possible ways to leverage those services.

  • Information regarding existing community based partnerships that enhance the services that NCAC provides.

If you are considering a partnership with NCAC as part of your proposal, please consider the following as a guideline for application:

  • If you want NCAC to write in support of your proposal, please contact Lisa Pote to review your proposed design so that we can help you insure that opportunities for integration with us are utilized.

  • Please submit your proposal for review no later than April 30. If integration issues are addressed, NCAC will provide a letter of support by Friday May 1st.

For additional information, please contact Lisa Pote, director of community services, at (615) 862-8890 ext. 277 or Lisa.Pote@nashville.gov.
