Assessments
The Nashville Career Advancement Center values a comprehensive assessment process for individual career development, employment decision-making, and lifelong learning. We believe there are multiple factors that play important roles in discovering the right career or training program, and aim to provide our customers with assessments that address each factor. Our current assessment offerings are:
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
Strong Interest Inventory (SII)
WorkKeys Assessment
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
The MBTI assessment identifies an individual's personality type. The goal of this assessment is "to enable individuals to grow through an understanding and appreciation of individual differences in healthy personality and to enhance harmony and productivity among diverse groups." By learning one's own personality type, along with personality strengths and weaknesses, the individual is better equipped to describe his or her assets during the interview process and is also able to manage both his challenges and talents while working with others on the job.
Once a customer has taken the MBTI online, she will set up a one-on-one meeting with her Career Coach at NCAC. The Coach will interpret the assessment results with the customer, using the MBTI Career Report. This report contains information on the identified MBTI personality type, as well as different careers that match that specific type. Following the interpretation, the Coach and customer develop an action plan for further career exploration.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII)
The Strong Interest Inventory identifies an individual's career interests. The goal of the SII is "to help people make educational and occupational choices," such as course of study, major, or employment. The assessment uses six General Occupational Themes to organize the information for the customer. The themes are: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional. Knowing his or her occupational interests truly helps the customer to narrow and focus his or her career exploration.
At NCAC, a one-on-one appointment with a Career Coach is scheduled for each customer who takes the Strong Interest Inventory. The Career Coach interprets the assessment results with the customer and explains the report. The report lists job titles that match the customer's interests. Exercises for further career or educational exploration are given to enhance the customer's experience and decision-making ability.
